2010 End of Year Trip

The End of School year trip is coming up on Monday, June 28th. We'll be going to the Royal Canadian Mint and to an Amusement Park.

We're considering going to one of two amusement parks: Tinkertown or Grand Prix.

The links to both of these amusement parks are listed below:

Tinkertown
(9.00 per wrist band which allows you to go to all the rides, even multiple times. Some height restrictions apply.)

Grand Prix
(12.00 for 19 tickets which allow you to go to 5 or 6 different rides. Some rides cost up to 7 tickets)

Take a quick tour of the two sites. Which one would you like to go to? Then fill out the survey below.

May 28: New Leadership!

We are now under new leadership. Thank you Shawni for the work you did last class organizing and directing what needed to be done. Thank you to all the others, Jonathan, Gideon, Derek and Adam, for working along.

Remember, you have a plan of what needs to be done. You now have to attack those things.

Make sure that your date for the 30-Hour-Famine works. Think about the start time and end time...will these work for all the participants.

Once that is clearly established, get that poster invite completed and posted!!!

Time to Let People Know about 30HF

Is the plan-of-action ready? See last day's post. If not, finish it and review it with all involved. I'll need to see this finished, by the end of today!

It's May 26th today. It's time to let people know when the 30-Hour Famine will take place. I'd suggest a poster for the community bulletin board with the appropriate information.

Also, some of you should be working on a letter to sponsors; make sure that you start with a grabbing introduction and summary; then add details and finally conclude with an action statement.

Don't forget to fill out the Engagement Survey.

Moving Right Along

So now we've spent 2 classes preparing for the 30-Hour-Famine.

We need to continue to make a plan for implementing it.

Remember, you need to make a point-by-point plan of action.
This plan of action will include all of the elements needed to make the 30-Hour-Famine a success. It should include all the events and actions necessary to make the 30-Hour-Famine happen, ending with a Famine Date.

With 5 minutes left in class, close what you are doing and complete the survey below.

30-Hour Famine Leadership Project

As part of the Leadership unit within the grade 11/12 Active Healthy Living course, grade 11/12 student will be organizing a 30-Hour-Famine.

Generally speaking, you will be in charge of researching, planning, organizing, inviting, and hosting a 30-hour-famine.

As part of the project, you're expected to research the 30-Hour-Famine program and World Vision Canada.

At the 30-Hour-Famine site, you'll find information for helping you to organize the event.

Plan of Action
You are expected to work together with your classmates to come up with an actual plan of action.
This is a step-by-step overview of the overall steps needed to completed the project. I'd encourage you to create this plan in google docs with sharing/collaboration enabled so that all can work together on it.

Sponsor List
You'll need to find sponsors. Google spreadsheets would be a useful tool to help list and organize your potential sponsers and their contributions.

Letter to sponsors
You'll need to prepare a letter to send to sponsors. This could be sent via email. The letter should include information about the 30-hour-famine, why you are doing it, what you hope to accomplish, and what you expect of your sponsor. It must be polite and respectful.

Poster
You'll want to create posters to adverstise the upcoming 30-Hour-Famine. This should tell your audience what it's about, why they should join, and when it will take place.

Collaboration
Throughout this project, you are expected to collaborate, to share or divide your workload evenly. I'm expecting some of you to show leadership to help accomplish the goal.

At the end of the class, I'd like you to fill out the "Engagement Survey".
